Beyond Compliance: Building Equitable Discipline Systems That Support Growth
Too often, discipline systems in schools default to punitive measures that disproportionately impact marginalized students. While compliance with policy and law is essential, discipline should also be about equity, care, and growth. This conversation explores how educators and leaders can create systems that balance accountability with compassion, consistency with flexibility, and policy with humanity.
Together, we’ll examine strategies such as restorative practices, equity-based student support models, and culturally responsive approaches that build trust and fairness. Participants will have the opportunity to share their challenges and successes, co-create guiding principles for equitable discipline, and reflect on how discipline systems shape culture and belonging in their schools.
This conversation invites educators to reimagine student discipline as a tool for learning and growth, not exclusion.
Conversational Practice
We’ll use a circle protocol where participants share stories, strategies, and reflections. Breakout groups will draft “equity principles” for discipline, which we’ll compile into a shared digital resource.
