Data with Dignity: Using Assessment to Inform Without Dehumanizing
Data-driven instruction has become a staple of school improvement, but it often reduces students to metrics and overlooks their lived experiences. This conversation challenges us to rethink how we collect, interpret, and use data to ensure it honors the dignity of every learner.
We’ll explore how to balance accountability demands with human-centered practices, how to use assessment to illuminate strengths as well as needs, and how to create interventions that are targeted yet compassionate. Participants will share strategies for turning numbers into narratives, elevating student voice in data conversations, and building systems that support — not sort — students.
By the end of the session, attendees will co-create a framework for “data with dignity,” offering practical tools and guiding questions to take back to their schools.
Conversational Practice
We’ll use a “data gallery walk” with case scenarios, inviting participants to analyze data narratives and redesign them with dignity in mind. Outcomes will be captured in a collaborative digital document.
